Vibo Marina boat collision leaves one dead and one injured

A fatal maritime accident occurred in the port of Vibo Marina on August 14 around 7:30 PM, when a speedboat collided with a small rental boat. The collision resulted in the death of Domenico Campana, a young man approximately 25 to 30 years old from Mirto Crosia.

Witnesses reported that the speedboat appeared to be traveling at high speed and potentially out of control, striking the smaller vessel with significant force. The impact caused severe injuries to the occupants, including deep wounds and head trauma. Despite immediate resuscitation efforts by emergency medical personnel and a doctor on site, Campana was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital in Vibo Valentia.

A young woman, identified by the initials F. M., was also injured in the crash. She was treated for injuries to her pelvis, elbow, and head and was transported to a hospital in Catanzaro; her condition is reported as stable.

The Coast Guard (Capitaneria di Porto) and the Guardia di Finanza have launched an investigation to reconstruct the dynamics of the collision and determine responsibility. In response to the tragedy, the municipal administration of Mirto Crosia canceled a scheduled musical event on August 15.
