Vast's Haven-1 Private Space Station Targets First Launch in 2027

After more than 25 years as the sole large laboratory in low‑Earth orbit, the International Space Station will gain a commercial companion. U.S. company Vast is developing Haven-1, described as the world’s first private space station, with a launch planned for the first quarter of 2027 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9. The 45‑cubic‑metre module can host up to four astronauts—government or private—for missions lasting up to two weeks, and will be serviced by Crew Dragon capsules for power and life‑support. The project aligns with NASA’s post‑ISS plans, as the current station is slated for de‑orbiting by the end of 2030 or early 2031. While China expands its Tiangong station, Haven‑1 marks a key step toward a commercial orbital infrastructure.
