Vatican appoints new nuncios for Colombia and Tonga

Pope Leo XIV has appointed two new apostolic nuncios to represent the Holy See. Archbishop Angelo Accattino has been named the new nuncio to Colombia, succeeding Monsignor Paolo Rudelli.

Accattino, an Italian archbishop, brings extensive diplomatic experience to Bogotá, having previously served in Trinidad and Tobago, Colombia, Peru, the United States, and Turkey. His appointment comes as Colombia manages the aftermath of a 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck the western regions on August 10.

Additionally, Archbishop Gábor Pintér has been appointed as the pontifical representative to the Kingdom of Tonga. The Hungarian prelate has been serving as an apostolic delegate in the Pacific region since 2024.
