Vatican City is recognized as the smallest country in the world, covering an area of just 0.44 square kilometers. Located within Rome, its current sovereignty was established in 1929 following the Lateran Pacts.

As the central hub of the Catholic Church, the microstate maintains a population of approximately 800 residents. Despite its tiny size, the enclave functions as a sovereign entity that issues its own stamps and coins, and is protected by the Swiss Guard.
