Vatican hosts Fratelli tutti meeting and meeting with PUC-Rio rector

The IV Fratelli tutti Meeting, titled ‘Socio-Environmental Dialogue North-South’, was held in Rome from September 10 to 12. The event brought together a diverse group of representatives from across the Americas, including episcopal conferences, international organizations, banks, unions, and universities. Promoted by the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, Celam, and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the meeting focused on ‘social friendship’ as a tool to address complex social and environmental conflicts through dialogue and the common good.

In a related engagement at the Vatican, Father Anderson Pedroso, rector of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) and president of the Organization of Catholic Universities of Latin America and the Caribbean (ODUCAL), met with Pope Leo XIV. During the meeting, Pedroso presented reports on ODUCAL’s work and discussed PUC-Rio’s academic expansion, including the implementation of a medical degree program. The encounter aimed to strengthen the connection between Brazilian higher education and the Holy See.
