Vatican imposes sanctions on Polish priest Mieczysław Puzewicz

The Vatican's Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith has issued a penal decree against Father Mieczysław Puzewicz, a prominent clergyman from the Archdiocese of Lublin. The decision follows investigations into past instances of violating the personal integrity of girls and young women.

The decree mandates a six-month ban on all pastoral activities involving minors. This restriction includes a prohibition on organizing or participating in formation meetings, trips, or any other forms of ministry directed at children and youth. Additionally, Puzewicz is forbidden from establishing or maintaining voluntary contact with minors, whether in person or through electronic communication such as telephone or the internet.

Failure to comply with these restrictions will result in immediate suspension, which entails the total loss of rights to perform priestly functions. The Archdiocese of Lublin stated that the decision is temporary and that further steps will be taken after the six-month period expires. Puzewicz has expressed remorse for his actions and has declared his intention to perform penance.
