Vatican to host coronation of Giugliano's Madonna della Pace statue
The statue of the Madonna della Pace, co-patron of Giugliano, will be taken to the Vatican next February for its third coronation. The ceremony will take place in the presence of Pope Leo, according to Don Luigi Pugliese, rector of the Santuario dell’Annunziata.
The first coronation occurred in 1749 following a donation from the faithful. This upcoming event follows the completion of roof renovations at the sanctuary, which had been pending for approximately thirty years. The restoration may also allow for the visibility of the church's historic coffered ceiling, which had been enclosed for decades.
Additionally, Pope Leo recently blessed the first stone for the construction of the new Sacro Cuore parish. The project, which was strongly advocated by the late Don Franco Russo, aims to serve a neighborhood experiencing significant urban growth. The blessing ceremony included the Bishop of Aversa, Angelo Spinillo, and parish priest Don Vincenzo Marfisa.
