VaultBots debuts Luka humanoid robot in Miami

VaultBots has introduced Luka, a humanoid robot designed to assist in hotels, restaurants, and elderly care facilities. The robot made its debut at the ‘AI 305’ artificial intelligence forum hosted by Florida International University in Miami.

Luka is capable of walking, guiding people, and responding to questions in 80 languages, including Spanish. While the robot can perform heavy tasks and provide recommendations to guests, it currently requires human oversight via an electronic tablet and is not yet fully autonomous. VaultBots CEO Gary Khachatryan stated that the technology is intended to enhance rather than replace human jobs by handling repetitive tasks during peak hours, allowing staff to focus on customer interaction.

Regarding security and privacy, the company noted that Luka’s cameras can record surroundings to monitor for incidents like crimes, but data is processed through the cloud and not stored locally. The robot also includes an emergency shut-off button and protocols to transfer conversations to human employees.
