VBZ delays tram line 6 and 10 extensions due to staff shortages

Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich (VBZ) has announced a delay in the planned extensions of tram lines 6 and 10. Originally scheduled for the December timetable change, the service expansions will now be implemented in May 2027 due to critical staffing shortages.

Line 6 is set to be extended during the day via Bahnhofplatz/HB, Stauffacher, and Albisriederplatz to Letzigrund, which is intended to increase capacity along Badenerstrasse and relieve lines 2, 3, and 14. Line 10 will be extended to Bahnhof Enge from Monday to Saturday during daytime hours.

Despite intensive recruitment efforts, the VBZ reports that current staffing levels are insufficient to support the expanded service. To improve operational stability and alleviate pressure on staff, the company also plans to increase turnaround times at stops to provide a buffer for delays. This follows previous labor pressure, including a petition from employees requesting better working conditions.
