Vícar and Viana do Bolo launch major local infrastructure projects
The town of Vícar announced a €650,000 renovation of its historic Mercado de Abastos in La Gangosa, financed through European Union funds as part of a broader €10 million integrated action plan. Mayor Antonio Bonilla said the upgraded market will retain its original structure while adding a covered central patio, a café, and flexible retail spaces to serve as a long‑term social hub for the community.
In Viana do Bolo, the municipal council opened two new car parks providing around 200 additional spaces. The new facilities are intended to support the town’s plan to clear vehicles from the historic Plaza Mayor and promote pedestrian use. Mayor Germán García‑Ávila highlighted that the parking expansion fulfills an electoral promise to offer alternatives before restricting on‑street parking, complementing recent traffic‑regulation changes aimed at revitalising the town centre for cultural and commercial activities.
