VCK chief Thirumavalavan says Gen Z protests reshape Indian politics

VCK (Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi) president Thol. Thirumavalavan told a gathering in Chennai on 2 August that India’s Gen Z is emerging as a powerful and unpredictable political force. He said young activists are using decentralized mobilisation, online campaigns and digital networks to organise rapid protests that pressure the central government and force swift political responses.

Thirumavalavan cited recent youth‑led demonstrations that succeeded in pressuring the government, including the resignation of former Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He argued that traditional parties such as the Congress and Communist parties find it increasingly difficult to anticipate the demands and tactics of this new generation, whose digital‑first approach can produce political outcomes faster than conventional party‑led rallies.
