Václav Fischer indicted in Germany for multiple fraud charges

Former Czech Senator and entrepreneur Václav Fischer has been indicted in Germany for multiple counts of fraud and attempted fraud. According to the Hamburg Public Prosecutor's Office, the charges involve three completed instances of fraud aimed at securing a permanent source of income, along with 29 attempted cases.

Fischer is suspected of posing as the owner of a Hamburg-based travel agency to illicitly claim 'Kurzarbeit' (short-time work) benefits and social security contributions for an employee in 17 instances, despite knowing the eligibility requirements were not met. He faces similar suspicions in 15 other cases involving a different company. The indictment covers activities occurring between spring 2021 and August 2022.

Fischer's company, Fischer Air, is currently in insolvency. The airline has faced criticism for frequently rescheduling or canceling flights and reportedly lacks its own aircraft, using outdated promotional imagery from a previous Czech entity. Fischer, who resides in Prague, had previously been the subject of a search by authorities to establish his address following criminal complaints from the German employment office.
