Václav Moravec’s new media project faces scrutiny over early performance
Debate has emerged regarding the performance of Moravec.cz, a new digital media project launched in May by journalist Václav Moravec following his departure from Czech Television.
Reports from Echo24 suggest the project is struggling, citing declining website traffic data from Similarweb and relatively low view counts on YouTube compared to Moravec’s previous high-reach programs on public television. The project aims to reach 10,000 to 12,000 subscribers to achieve self-sufficiency, with a team of seven people.
Media expert Jan Potůček has criticized these assessments as premature, arguing that building a subscriber base is a long-term process that should not be judged after only a few months. He noted that the first year may require partial subsidies and that success will depend on future developments, such as smart TV applications. Similarly, editor Jakub Zelenka noted that achieving several thousand views in the initial months is a strong conversion rate for a non-sensationalist news platform.
