Víctor Ito Bisonó appointed Dominican Republic Foreign Minister

Víctor Ito Bisonó has assumed office as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Dominican Republic, following his appointment by President Luis Abinader via Decree 554-26. He succeeds Roberto Álvarez, who led the ministry for the past six years.

Bisonó’s administration will focus on defending national sovereignty, strengthening international alliances, and adapting to a complex global landscape. He emphasized the importance of professionalizing the diplomatic corps and leveraging the existing expertise within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex).

To improve communication between the central headquarters and Dominican diplomatic missions abroad, Bisonó has introduced a technological initiative using QR codes. This tool allows foreign service officials to send suggestions, projects, and observations directly to the Chancellor’s office, aiming to reduce institutional distance and foster a two-way communication flow.
