Víctor Manuel Amado de León assassinated in Morelos armed attack
Víctor Manuel Amado de León, a political leader and former mayoral candidate for Coatlán del Río, was assassinated in an armed attack during the early hours of Monday, August 24, in Mazatepec, Morelos.
The attack occurred in the Justo Sierra neighborhood on Guatemala Street. Amado de León was traveling in a vehicle with an acquaintance when armed individuals intercepted them and opened fire. Amado de León died at the scene, while his companion was wounded and transported to a hospital in Tetecala in critical condition.
Amado de León served as a district coordinator and municipal leader for the PAZ party. He had previously run for mayor in 2024 under the Partido Encuentro Solidario (PES) banner. The PAZ party leadership condemned the killing, noting that the politician had received prior threats and had been the victim of gunfire at his home during the 2024 electoral process.
The Fiscalía General del Estado de Morelos has launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive behind the homicide.
