Tigres UANL appoints Víctor Vucetich as interim coach and VP

Tigres UANL has entered a new era following a structural reorganization. The club announced that Víctor Manuel Vucetich will assume a dual role as the new Sports Vice President and interim head coach for the Apertura 2026 tournament. This move follows the departure of Gerardo Torrado from the Sports Vice Presidency, a position he held for two years.

In his debut as interim manager, Vucetich led Tigres to a 2-0 victory over Atlante at the Estadio Universitario. The match was marked by an early red card for Atlante's Luis Calzadilla in the 36th minute. Despite the numerical advantage, Tigres struggled to score until Rodrigo Aguirre opened the account in the 79th minute, followed by a goal from Juan Brunetta in the 90th minute.

The appointment has drawn mixed reactions, including some boos from fans during Vucetich's presentation due to his successful history with archrivals Monterrey. Additionally, former Tigres coach Ricardo Ferretti commented on the situation, describing the current state of the club as a period of “anarchy” and “disorder” that Vucetich must resolve.
