Víctor Piñán calls for legislative respect and confirms withdrawal of censure support

Víctor Piñán, spokesperson for the Obras party in the Chamber of Deputies, has called for the respect of a previously agreed-upon text regarding the executive branch's requested legislative powers. The proposal, approved by the Constitution Commission, limits these powers strictly to citizen security and El Niño phenomenon prevention. Piñán warned against modifying this technical consensus during parliamentary debate and urged the Executive to issue a public statement confirming its commitment to the agreement.

In a separate political development, the Obras party deputies have withdrawn their signatures from a motion of censure against Interior Minister César Astudillo. Piñán stated that the decision followed a meeting with party leader Ricardo Belmont, who advised the group to grant the minister a five to six-month period to demonstrate his effectiveness in combating crime. While the motion originally had 35 signatures, the withdrawal by the Obras caucus impacts the momentum of the censure attempt.
