Víctor Revoredo defends PNP approach to Los Pulpos gang

Víctor Revoredo, head of the National Police of Peru’s Criminal Investigation Directorate (Dirincri), has defended the police force's approach toward the criminal organization known as ‘Los Pulpos.’ Following an operation related to the kidnapping of mining businessman Jenss Lara and a quadruple murder in Trujillo, Revoredo stated that the police do not consider the group ‘enemies,’ but rather aim to bring members to justice so they can be sanctioned and resocialized.

Revoredo also defended the legality of preliminary interrogations conducted by officers before judicial or prosecutorial orders were obtained, asserting that the police have the authority to take urgent actions during investigations.

However, the director faced significant public criticism following a televised interview where he abruptly left the set after being questioned about the public presentation of suspects before conclusive forensic evidence was available. Critics and social media users have characterized the incident as a lack of transparency and competence, questioning the police's stance on criminal organizations that have caused widespread terror.
