Víctor Ríos defends judicial independence amid impeachment rumors

Supreme Court Justice Víctor Ríos has addressed rumors regarding a potential legislative operation to remove three ministers through impeachment. While such an initiative was reportedly stalled due to health crises and internal political tensions, Ríos stated that he does not view these rumors as a threat or pressure to alter his institutional positions.

Ríos, alongside colleagues Manuel Ramírez Candia and Gustavo Santander, emphasized their commitment to maintaining their legal criteria and increasing their scientific and legal rigor. Ríos noted that protecting their professional integrity and the ability to explain their rulings to society is a vital ‘symbolic capital’ they intend to safeguard.

Senator Natalicio Chase of the Honor Colorado faction denied that his parliamentary group has debated the possibility of impeachment. Ríos acknowledged that while judicial members face limitations on public expression, he remains committed to his legal stances regardless of political debate.
