VCU approves $182M for new dormitory and dentistry school

The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Board of Visitors has approved significant construction contracts for two major campus projects in Richmond.

A $145.7 million agreement was awarded to Kjellstrom & Lee to serve as the construction manager for the West Grace Street Housing Project. This 325,000-square-foot residence hall is expected to provide approximately 985 beds and is slated to open for the fall 2028 semester. The project, which has an estimated total cost of $205.7 million including contingency and bond costs, will also feature a 5,000-square-foot dining venue and 3,700 square feet of retail space.

Additionally, the board approved $37 million in early-construction contracts with Barton Malow for a new 314,000-square-foot School of Dentistry located on the MCV campus at 900 Turpin Street.
