VdK advises immediate care level applications in Germany
The VdK social association is advising individuals in Germany to apply for care levels (Pflegegrade) immediately before the new year. This recommendation follows a draft of the Care Reorganization Act (Pflegeneuordnungsgesetz) proposed by the German government, which aims to stabilize the finances of long-term care insurance.
The draft legislation suggests that criteria for determining care needs for new classifications will become stricter. Specifically, the requirements for care levels one through three may be tightened. VdK President Verena Bentele noted that while the new law has not yet been passed, the current regulations should be utilized by those eligible.
The association also issued a warning to those who already hold a care level: individuals seeking an upgrade should proceed with caution, as there is a risk of being downgraded under the new rules. Currently, over six million people in Germany require care.
