Vecsés representative sparks controversy with Szálasi quote

Attila Szabó, a Mi Hazánk representative in Vecsés, has sparked controversy after concluding a speech at the Andrássy Gyula Primary School with a quote attributed to Ferenc Szálasi, the leader of the wartime Arrow Cross Party. The quote, “One can die in the service of our nation, but one can never grow weary!”, was delivered during a local commemoration on October 6, the Day of Martyrs.

Following the event, István Balajti, a Member of Parliament for the region, formally requested that Mayor Csaba Szlahó remove the video of the speech from local television. Balajti expressed concern that the speech used a national day of mourning to convey personal political messages in the presence of seventh-grade students.

Mayor Szlahó responded by stating that the municipality had already removed the video from its official platforms prior to the formal complaint. He emphasized that both he and the municipality distance themselves from the ideologies and actions of Szálasi. The Mi Hazánk party has stated they will investigate the matter internally, asserting that no totalitarian system is acceptable to the party.
