Vedanta Group announces Rs 1 lakh crore investment in Odisha

Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal has announced a Rs 1 lakh crore investment drive in Odisha, targeting sectors including aluminium, mining, refining, and downstream manufacturing. The announcement followed a meeting between Agarwal and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.

The investment plan aims to expand industrial activity and is expected to generate at least 50,000 direct and indirect jobs. Key components of the drive include the potential development of a refinery in Raigarh, a smelter, and an expansion of existing operations in Jharsuguda, which may include a 2 million-tonne plant on approximately 500 acres of land.

To facilitate these projects over the next two-and-a-half to three years, Agarwal requested expedited land allocation and government clearances. He also emphasized the importance of developing an aluminium-based ecosystem in the state to attract small and medium enterprises serving the automotive, aviation, and railway sectors.
