Vedelago ‘Squadrismo Summer Fest’ sparks political controversy

The ‘Squadrismo Summer Fest’ held in Vedelago has sparked significant political controversy following the release of images from the event. Social media posts by former regional councilor Joe Formaggio showed banners with slogans such as ‘Razza Piave’ and visual references to the March on Rome, alongside greetings to ‘comrades of Treviso’.

Opposition groups and the National Association of Italian Partisans (Anpi) have condemned the event, describing the use of such symbols as having ‘anti-constitutional connotations’ and calling for institutional intervention. Democratic Party parliamentarians Rachele Scarpa and Piero Fassino have submitted inquiries to the Ministry of the Interior regarding the gathering.

In response, members of Futuro Nazionale have downplayed the controversy. Organizer Christian Zamperoni suggested the term ‘squadrismo’ should be interpreted simply as ‘working as a team,’ while Stefano Valdegamberi characterized the event as a private gathering among friends. Local officials who attended, including the Mayor of Spresiano, defended their presence as participating in a social invitation.
