Vedran Pavlek extradition efforts continue in Kazakhstan

Croatian Minister of Justice, Damir Habijan, addressed the ongoing extradition process for Vedran Pavlek, the former director of the Croatian Ski Association. Pavlek is a suspect in a USKOK investigation regarding the alleged embezzlement of nearly 30 million euros from the association over a ten-year period.

Following his arrest in Kazakhstan in early May, reports have surfaced suggesting Pavlek has established a new life in Almaty, including claims that he has married and is attempting to build a new Kazakhstani ski team by recruiting Croatian skiers. Minister Habijan stated he has no confirmed information regarding a marriage but noted that such a fact would likely not assist in the extradition process.

While Pavlek remains unavailable to Croatian authorities, the extradition procedure is ongoing. Although there have been reports of a lack of communication from Kazakhstani judicial authorities, Croatian officials maintain they are utilizing all available legal means to secure his return.
