Vedrana Rudan passes away amid social media controversy
Croatian writer and columnist Vedrana Rudan has passed away at the age of 77 following a long and difficult battle with a rare form of cancer. Known for her provocative and direct public commentary on politics, society, and women's rights, her death has drawn a wide range of reactions across the region.
While many public figures have shared tributes, Iva Alilović, wife of handball player Mirko Alilović, posted controversial comments on social media. Alilović declined to offer condolences, describing Rudan as a “deeply unhappy woman who acted out a role on the outside” and labeling her a “fool.”
Alilović further criticized Rudan’s relationship with Croatia, suggesting the writer might have fallen ill due to living among people she “hated from the bottom of her soul.” She also expressed hope that Rudan would be buried in a place where she felt more accepted, rather than in Croatia. Additionally, Alilović used the platform to critique Rudan’s views on motherhood and family.
