Veeam launches Cloud Archive Tier for low‑cost long‑term backup retention

Veeam Software announced the general availability of Veeam Data Cloud Vault Archive, an archival‑class cloud tier that lets organisations move older, rarely accessed backup data from premium storage to a lower‑cost archive tier. The solution automatically tiers aged backups, large unstructured datasets and redundant, obsolete or trivial (ROT) data while keeping recovery‑critical backups on the performance‑optimized Veeam Data Cloud Vault.

Designed to address growing data volumes, stricter regulatory requirements and ransomware risk—backup repositories are cited in 96% of ransomware attacks—the archive tier provides immutable, logically air‑gapped and encrypted storage with customer‑controlled data placement and predictable long‑term retention economics. Rehan Jalil, Veeam’s President of Products and Technology, emphasized that “trusted AI requires trusted data,” and that data must remain protected, isolated, recoverable and stored in the right location even when no longer actively used.
