Veendam and Dantumadiel announce local road safety and maintenance projects

The municipality of Veendam has announced plans to improve traffic safety on the Oeverloper in Wildervank. To protect students attending De Westerschool, the speed limit will be reduced from 50 km/h to 30 km/h. The project includes the installation of traffic plateaus at intersections, an additional speed bump, and the creation of a dedicated pedestrian path separated from cyclists. The initiative is funded by a €180,000 allocation from the Veendam municipal council and an €88,000 subsidy from the province of Groningen. Work is expected to begin late this year or in early 2027.

In Dantumadiel, the Kûkhernsterwei will close to all traffic from October 27 to November 13 for asphalt and roadside repairs. Vehicles will be diverted via Zevenhuisterweg and Tolwei, while cyclists and pedestrians can use the De Swadde path. Other local maintenance includes repairs to asphalt subsidence on Sûder Stasjonstrjitte on October 29, the installation of a new speed bump on Sûderwei in Feanwâlden between October 26 and 29, and roadwork on Lytse Loane in Damwâld from October 26 to 30.
