Vegan diet may slow biological aging, study suggests

A small-scale study conducted by researchers from the United States and Germany suggests that a vegan diet may slow certain biological aging processes. The study involved approximately 50 adults, divided into two groups: one consuming a diet including meat and the other following a vegan diet. Both groups maintained a similar daily calorie intake.

By analyzing blood samples, researchers examined DNA methylation and immune system function. The results indicated that the vegan diet was associated with lower levels of inflammation. Furthermore, certain indicators, such as epigenetic clocks—biochemical tools used to estimate biological age through DNA changes—suggested a potential deceleration of biological aging in the vegan group.
