Veghel migrant housing complex for 500 workers cleared by Raad van State

The Dutch Council of State (Raad van State) gave the green light for a housing project in Veghel, Meierijstad, that will consist of 100 tiny houses and a central reception building. The development is intended to temporarily accommodate up to 500 labor migrants working in the region.

The municipality granted a permit in 2023, but the plan faced strong resistance from local residents who raised concerns about traffic safety, livability and the impact on the small hamlet of Dorshout, which has fewer than 100 inhabitants. The highest administrative court ruled that the municipality had provided sufficient justification, that the site is suitable for temporary migrant housing, and that the plan aligns with local policy. The decision emphasizes the temporary nature of the accommodation rather than permanent residential construction.
