Vehicle breaches security checkpoint on Jammu‑Srinagar highway, Ramban

On August 7, 2026 a suspicious four‑wheel vehicle (identified as a Scorpio, registration JK02AK‑1743) jumped a security barricade at the Chanderkote checkpoint on the Jammu‑Srinagar highway in Ramban district, Jammu and Kashmir. Police signalled the driver to stop, fired three warning shots, but the driver ignored the orders and accelerated toward the Nashri area.

A joint search operation involving district police, the Central Reserve Police Force and the Indian Army was launched. The vehicle was later seized near Dalwas, according to Senior Superintendent of Police Arun Gupta. The breach raised security concerns for the Amarnath Yatra, a major pilgrimage that uses the same highway. The Yatra, which had been suspended for a day, resumed from Jammu with a batch of 1,801 pilgrims departing from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp. To date more than 4.71 lakh pilgrims have visited the Amarnath shrine.
