Vehicle engine maintenance and common mechanical risks

Maintaining vehicle engine health requires attention to fuel injection systems and proper oil management. Faulty fuel injectors, often caused by contamination, wear, or electrical issues, can lead to increased fuel consumption, uneven engine operation, jerking, and sudden power surges. If left unaddressed, an incorrect fuel-air mixture can cause serious damage, such as piston failure.

Proper engine care also involves specific habits regarding oil and temperature management. Adding cold oil to a hot engine can cause localized contraction and cracking in the cylinder head. Additionally, drivers of turbocharged engines should allow the engine to idle for one to two minutes after long or aggressive drives to ensure proper cooling via oil. Finally, high RPMs should be avoided until the engine reaches its operating temperature to prevent damage caused by high friction and poor lubrication.
