Vehicle fire on A10 motorway destroys car near Niort

A family of five, including four children, narrowly escaped injury on August 16, 2026, when their vehicle was destroyed by fire on the A10 motorway near Niort. The incident occurred at the Sainte-Eanne rest area in the Deux-Sèvres department while traveling toward Bordeaux.

According to the departmental flow control squadron (EDCF), the driver had noticed a warning light on the dashboard for some time and decided to stop at the rest area. When the driver opened the hood to inspect the engine, flames immediately emerged and quickly consumed the entire vehicle. All occupants had already exited the car before the fire spread.
