Fire erupts in Gaziantep's Araban district, spreads to neighboring villages
A fire broke out in the rural Yaylacık neighbourhood of Araban district, Gaziantep Province, on 5 July 2026. The blaze started in an area of Antep pistachio orchards and dry vegetation for an as‑yet unknown reason. Strong winds quickly carried the flames to the adjacent Yukarı Söğütlü village in Besni district, Adıyaman Province.
Because the terrain is mountainous and lacks access roads, fire‑trucks could not reach the site directly. Residents used tractors and trailers to combat the flames, while firefighters arrived after the emergency call. After extensive night‑long efforts by locals and authorities, the fire was brought under control and extinguished. In the aftermath, villagers from both Yaylacık and Yukarı Söğütlü petitioned officials to build a road that would allow fire‑engines to reach the area more quickly in future incidents.
