Vehicle fires shut sections of German highways

On July 10, a diesel‑powered vehicle caught fire on the B33 between Radolfzell and Steißlingen in Baden‑Württemberg. The occupants escaped unharmed, but the blaze spread to the adjacent grass strip, prompting a full closure of the road segment while firefighters extinguished the flames and later handed the scene over to police and road authorities.

A separate incident occurred on the A6 near Kirchardt, also in Baden‑Württemberg, when a 40‑ton truck ignited on the shoulder. The driver pulled over and fled the vehicle before it erupted in flames; no injuries were reported. The fire damaged the asphalt and nearby dry vegetation, leading to a temporary shutdown of one lane before traffic resumed early the following morning. The cause of both fires remains under investigation, with a technical defect suspected in the A6 case.
