In Germany, vehicle owners are being warned about the ‘Red Dot’ (Roter Punkt), a sticker placed by police on cars that are not roadworthy or are illegally parked on public property. Ignoring this notice can lead to severe financial consequences, including towing, storage fees, and potential auctioning or scrapping of the vehicle. In some cases, such as in Nuremberg, owners may be held liable for costs exceeding 100,000 euros if the sale of the vehicle does not cover the accumulated fees.

Meanwhile, in Italy, travelers are being cautioned against a specific theft scam targeting motorists in parking lots. Fraudsters place a banknote, such as a 50-euro note, under a windshield wiper to lure drivers out of their vehicles. Once the driver exits, thieves steal valuables like phones and wallets, or in some instances, drive the vehicle away if the keys are left in the ignition. Another variation involves placing a water bottle in a wheel well to create a noise that prompts the driver to exit the car, leaving them vulnerable to theft.
