Vehicle licensing requirements updated in São Paulo and Distrito Federal

Vehicle licensing requirements and digital documentation procedures are being highlighted for drivers in Brazil. In the state of São Paulo, mandatory licensing for vehicles with license plates ending in 5 and 6 begins in September.

To regularize a vehicle in São Paulo, owners must settle all outstanding traffic fines and IPVA taxes, then pay the licensing fee of R$ 174.08. Once paid, the digital vehicle registration document (CRLV-e) is updated instantly and can be accessed via the Detran-SP portal, Poupatempo, or the Senatran applications.

In the Distrito Federal, the CRLV-e serves as the unified digital document for annual licensing and vehicle ownership. Issuance is free of charge once all financial and administrative debts, including IPVA and licensing fees, are cleared. Owners can access the document through the Detran-DF portal or app, and it is also available via the Carteira Digital de Trânsito (CDT) app.
