Vehicle maintenance experts warn of high costs from winter neglect

As temperatures drop, automotive experts are warning vehicle owners to perform essential winter maintenance to avoid significant repair costs. Experts note that neglecting minor checks can lead to expenses rising from small amounts to as much as 200,000 lira.

Key areas requiring attention include battery performance, antifreeze levels, and braking systems. Cold weather can diminish battery efficiency and cause serious damage to engine cooling systems if antifreeze is insufficient.

Ziya Çorumlu, a vehicle service maintenance manager, recommends a 20-point inspection before winter sets in. This includes measuring battery health, checking antifreeze freezing points, and inspecting engine oil, electrical systems, and front-end components. Experts advise drivers not to wait solely for periodic mileage-based maintenance but to conduct these checks proactively to ensure safety and prevent mechanical failure.
