Vehicle maintenance tips for cars left parked for long periods

When a vehicle remains parked and unused for several weeks, owners should perform specific checks before driving to avoid mechanical or structural issues.

One primary concern is the battery. Modern vehicle electronics continue to draw power even when the car is locked, which can lead to a drained battery. Extreme temperatures, both heat and cold, can negatively affect voltage. It is recommended to use a smart charger rather than jump-starting with cables, as the latter can shorten the battery's lifespan.

Additionally, debris such as leaves and twigs can clog the rainwater drainage outlets located below the windshield. If these drains are blocked, water may leak into the cabin, potentially leading to the growth of unhealthy mold. Mold can be treated using a mixture of water and baking soda. Finally, windshield wiper blades should be inspected and cleaned with a dry cloth to prevent them from tearing if they have become stuck to the glass.
