Vehicle plunges toward Telaga Sarangan edge; six tourists safe

A vehicle carrying six tourists from Boyolali plunged toward the edge of Telaga Sarangan in Magetan, East Java, during the early hours of Tuesday, August 18, 2026. The incident occurred around 04:00 to 05:10 WIB near the Dragon Statue area.

All six occupants were reported safe and uninjured. The vehicle, a Toyota, reportedly moved backward after the driver attempted to maneuver for parking, subsequently striking a road barrier and sliding toward the lake's edge. The car did not fully submerge in the water, as it was obstructed by debris at the shoreline.

Local police from the Plaosan Traffic Post and Plaosan Sector Police coordinated the evacuation. Authorities are investigating the exact cause, though preliminary observations suggest the driver may have accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake while navigating the steep and winding terrain. Police have advised travelers in the area to exercise increased caution due to the challenging road conditions.
