Vehicle safety failures caused fatal Phap Van - Cau Giẽ bus crash
Authorities have identified mechanical failure as the primary cause of a fatal bus accident on the Phap Van - Cau Giẽ Expressway that occurred on July 17. The accident, which involved a sleeper bus carrying 32 passengers traveling from Ninh Binh to Hanoi, resulted in four deaths, including two children, and several injuries.
Investigations revealed that the vehicle was not safe for operation. The steering system's transverse axis had a break that had been reinforced multiple times, and the vehicle had not undergone complete registration inspections. Despite knowing the bus had a broken shock absorber and faulty air bags, the owner and driver continued to operate the vehicle.
Hanoi Police have initiated criminal proceedings against the vehicle owner. Officials are now calling for increased inspections of transport business conditions and vehicle registration processes to prevent similar incidents.
