Vehicle technical inspections reveal high failure rates in Slovakia and Slovenia
Recent technical inspection data from Slovakia and Slovenia indicate significant numbers of vehicles failing to meet safety standards. In Slovakia, statistics from 2025 show that approximately every tenth vehicle failed inspection. Out of 1.43 million vehicles tested, 8.91% (127,411 cars) were deemed temporarily unfit due to serious faults, while 1.03% (14,662 cars) were found completely unfit for operation.
In Slovakia, braking system issues were the most frequent cause of failure, including uneven braking force, excessive fluctuations in braking power, and insufficient parking brake effectiveness.
In Slovenia, data from the Ministry of Infrastructure shows tens of thousands of vehicles fail inspections annually. In 2020, nearly 98,674 inspections identified non-compliant or critically flawed vehicles. Trends from 2020 to 2022 show a gradual decrease in these instances, with 84,924 failures recorded in 2022. The most common issues in Slovenia include lighting and electrical equipment, followed by braking systems, and thirdly, issues related to axles, wheels, tires, and suspension.
