Veikkaus reports growth and restructuring ahead of license payment
Veikkaus, Finland’s state-owned gambling operator, reported revenue growth for the first half of 2026, reaching €471.3 million compared to €466.4 million in the same period the previous year. Profit for the period rose 2% to €234.2 million.
The company is undergoing organizational changes to prepare for a partially liberalized Finnish gambling market and an upcoming €1 billion lottery license payment due over the next decade. Veikkaus is restructuring its Data and AI unit, a move that involves eliminating 15 positions while creating 17 new roles to enhance technical capabilities. The company has also split into two branches: one responsible for the exclusive lottery and another for the gambling and betting markets operating under the new license.
CEO Olli Sarekoski noted that investments in digital business are delivering results, while Reija Airas, EVP of People, Culture and Communications, stated the changes are necessary to meet future market requirements. Veikkaus will also join the newly formed Gambling Industry Association of Finland.
