Velaa Private Island hosts sports festivals in Noonu Atoll
Velaa Private Island has completed the sixth year of its Fehikuramaa community initiative, which recently held sports festivals across all 13 inhabited islands of Noonu Atoll. Held between 26 August and 10 September, the festivals engaged 3,034 students in activities focused on movement, teamwork, and the benefits of an active lifestyle.
Launched in 2021 as a Corporate Social Responsibility programme, Fehikuramaa originally focused on waste management challenges in the region. Over the past six years, the initiative has expanded its scope to include ocean pollution, recycling, composting, gardening, water safety, nutrition, and healthy living. Previous efforts included the distribution of water dispensers, waste-segregation bins, and waste shredders to the islands.
