Velana International Airport opens new Terminal 1

The new Terminal 1 at Velana International Airport (MLE) in the Maldives is now open, marking a significant upgrade to the country's primary international gateway. The new facility aims to replace the previous arrival process, which often required passengers to use remote stands and buses to reach an overcrowded arrivals hall.

Key improvements include the introduction of jet bridges, with seven currently operational and plans to expand to between 12 and 15. While the physical infrastructure of the immigration and customs halls has been vastly improved, travelers may still encounter bottlenecks during peak arrival periods.
