Velavan Senthilkumar wins Budapest Open squash title

Indian squash player Velavan Senthilkumar won the Budapest Open Squash Championship, a USD 43,500 PSA Copper event, by defeating local favorite Balázs Farkas in the final. Senthilkumar secured the title with a straight-games victory, winning 11-4, 11-2, and 11-3.

Senthilkumar’s path to the championship included a significant quarter-final win over Malaysia’s Eain Yow, the world No. 19 and reigning Asian Games champion, with scores of 11-2, 11-9, and 11-8. In the semi-finals, he overcame compatriot Veer Chotrani in a five-game match, winning 9-11, 11-8, 11-7, 1-11, 12-10.

This victory marks Senthilkumar’s 11th title on the PSA Tour and improves his head-to-head record against Farkas to 2-1. The win is seen as a significant milestone for his prospects heading into the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.
