Velenje municipality unveils major urban development projects

The Municipality of Velenje has launched a new exhibition titled ‘Pozdravljena, prihodnost – Gradimo novo Velenje’ (Hello, Future – Building a New Velenje) at the Velenje Post Office. The exhibition outlines one of the largest development cycles in the city's history, detailing key projects, investments, and structural changes intended to shape the municipality's future.

In 2026, the municipality plans to allocate nearly 68 million euros toward investments aimed at creating new jobs, housing, modern infrastructure, and a green urban transformation. Key projects highlighted include the transformation of the Old Power Plant into a ‘Center of the Future,’ the development of the Velenje Technology Park (TecHub), new business and residential areas, the renovation of Cankarjeva Road, and advancements in sustainable mobility, healthcare, education, and energy.

The exhibition also reflects recent economic trends in the region. Between 2020 and 2025, the number of jobs in Velenje increased from 15,882 to 16,852, while the registered unemployment rate dropped from 9.97% to 4.60%. The initiative aims to present these complex developmental goals to citizens through visual displays and concise information across five key areas: economic and rural development, mobility and infrastructure, sustainable development, knowledge and education, and human-centric urban living.
