Veles begins construction of underground garage and new square

Construction has officially commenced on a major infrastructure project in Veles, North Macedonia, featuring a new public square and a three-level underground garage. The project aims to significantly improve urban planning and increase vehicle capacity by three times.

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski attended the commencement, noting that the preparatory phase is complete. He expressed confidence that the facility could be operational by the first half of next year. Veles Mayor Marko Kolev highlighted the technical complexity of the project, which involves deep excavations of over 13.5 meters and the use of specialized anchoring systems.

The project is being supported by the national government to boost local economic activity and infrastructure. Kolev also noted that the construction process faced early challenges, including the discovery of a World War II bomb during the earthworks phase.
