Veles students explore sacred heritage for museum anniversary
To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the National Museum Veles, the project ‘Tales of Veles Through Children’s Eyes’ is being held for local primary school students. The initiative aims to connect the younger generation with the city’s rich cultural, historical, and spiritual heritage.
During the first day of the project, students visited several significant sacred sites in and around Veles. These included the St. Panteleimon Cathedral of the Povardarje Diocese, built in 1840 and considered a masterpiece by Andrej Damjanov, the St. John the Baptist church (Markova Meana) from the 13th–14th centuries, the St. Demetrius church, and the St. Nedela church.
Art historian and curator Aleksandra Giovska stated that the project encourages curiosity and creativity by allowing children to become active participants in storytelling about their city. The goal is to foster a sense of respect and responsibility toward preserving cultural monuments through direct contact with their architectural beauty and symbolism.
