Andhra Pradesh CM launches Veligonda project and AIG Hospital expansion
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has inaugurated Phase 1 of the Veligonda irrigation project, releasing 10.7 TMC of Krishna River water into the Nallamala Sagar reservoir. The project aims to address drought, groundwater depletion, and fluoride contamination in the Markapuram, Prakasam, Nellore, and Kadapa districts. Once fully operational, the project is expected to irrigate 4.47 lakh acres and provide drinking water to approximately 23 lakh people.
In a separate development, AIG Hospitals has laid the foundation stone for a new greenfield multispeciality hospital campus in Visakhapatnam. The facility is planned to be completed in two phases, eventually reaching a 1,000-bed capacity by 2030 or 2031. The campus will include a nursing college, a research laboratory, and an artificial intelligence centre, with Phase 1 expected to be operational by October 2028.
Additionally, Chief Minister Naidu reviewed government operations, directing officials to improve citizen services through digital platforms and regular performance-based reviews. He emphasized the importance of sanitation, crime prevention, and supporting farmers through technological tools like the AWARE app.
